THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE PATTERNS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND WELL-BEING AMONG STUDENTS OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN KATSINA STATE
Abstract
The emergence of the digital era has initiated a profound transformation in education, especially within academic institutions. The purpose of this study is to look into the multidimensional relationship between social media usage patterns, academic achievement, and general well-being among students in tertiary institutions in Katsina State, Nigeria. Because of social media's extensive effect in modern culture, there is concern regarding its possible impact on students' academic performance and psychological well-being. The study uses a quantitative research approach to collect data from 500 students via a structured questionnaire, which represents the sample size. The study's first findings indicate a complicated interplay between social media usage patterns, academic performance, and well-being. While students recognize the benefits of social media for educational reasons, they also report difficulties with time management, distraction, and social comparison, which may jeopardize their academic progress and emotional well-being. Furthermore, studies show that the volume and nature of social media usage vary among students, with implications for academic achievement and general life happiness. Keywords:
