AN INTEGRATION OF SYSTEMS APPROACH IN THE ASSESSMENT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE OF ABUJA, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study explores the integration of a systems approach in assessing sustainable development and good governance in Abuja, Nigeria. Given the rapid urbanization and complexities of governance structures in the Federal Capital Territory, the research applies a holistic framework that incorporates spatial, economic, social, and environmental subsystems. By analyzing the interdependencies and feedback mechanisms between these dimensions, the study identifies systemic challenges such as infrastructural gaps, policy misalignments, and social inequities. The findings highlight the need for integrated urban planning strategies and propose actionable recommendations to promote balanced growth, equity, and environmental resilience. The research emphasizes the importance of policy integration, capacity building, community participation, and environmental stewardship to enhance governance outcomes and achieve sustainable development in Abuja. The study provides valuable insights for urban policymakers and planners seeking to address the complex dynamics of urban sustainability and governance in rapidly growing cities.
