Abstract

This article discussed the position of the Registrar in University Governance in Nigeria. The article substantiated its assertions with data obtained from secondary sources. The print and online publications of reputable institutions functioned as supplementary sources of information. The university system adheres to the governing principles of good governance, transparency, and accessibility for all sincere information consumers. The fundamental tenet of this philosophy is that the university is in an ideal position to fulfil its responsibility as a community-based institution that offers teaching, consulting, professional services, and research. Aligned with the tenets of sound governance, the modernization of governance in higher education necessitates a resolution to the challenges pertaining to technological advancements, political astuteness, strategic pertinence, democratisation, and operational agility. The registrar serves as the university's principal executive officer. With regard to the daily administrative affairs of the university, he primarily answers to the Vice-Chancellor in his roles as Chief Administrative Officer and Director of the Registry. In addition to being the administrator of the Senate, Congregation, and Convocation, he also serves as the Governing Council. He performs supervisory roles in his domain, the registry, and regulates the activities. He is a top management staff and carries out the implementation of council, council committees and management decisions. He plays a critical and significant role in university governance.
