IMPACT OF AGING PROCESS AND COUNSELLING STRATEGIES IN MANAGEMENT OF THE AGED
Abstract
The study focused on the Impact of Aging and Counselling strategies in Management of the Aged. The design of the study was descriptive survey and two research questions guided the study. The population of the study consists of 160 counsellors, which incidentally served as sample since population is small. The instrument for data collection was 38 item questionnaire titled ‘’Impact of Aging and Counselling Strategies in Management of the Aged Questionnaire’’ (IACSMAQ) with reliability estimate of 0.80. The findings revealed that Aging impacted on the Aged in various ways such as depression, anxiety, disability, stress, loneliness among others. Hence the need for counselling services. While counselling strategies include cognitive behaviour therapy, reminiscence therapy, improved mental health among others. Based on the findings the researchers recommended among others that professional counsellors should be employed in elderly institutions and society should shun negative stereotype against the Aged.
